A health and wellbeing organization is seeking an enthusiastic Assistant Psychologist to join their Norfolk Forensic Community Learning Disability team. Assistant Psychologist

An exciting has arisen for an enthusiastic, creative, dynamic and committed Assistant Psychologist to join our award-winning Norfolk Forensic Community Learning Disability (NFC‑LD) team.

As part of a multi‑disciplinary team, you will work alongside qualified psychologists to deliver high‑quality individualised psychological services, including assessment, formulation, and individual or group‑based therapeutic interventions. The role also involves report writing, risk assessment, clinically related administration and data analysis. You may contribute to training, audit, and research projects, and will receive regular supervision to support your professional development.

Main duties of the job

As part of a multi‑disciplinary team, you will work alongside qualified psychologists to deliver high‑quality individualised psychological service provision, including assessment, formulation, and individual or group‑based therapeutic interventions under supervision. The role also includes assisting with report writing, risk assessments, clinical administration, and data analysis. You may also support training, audit and research projects.

Job responsibilities

Clinical

  • Conduct protocol‑based psychological assessments using measures such as psychometric tests, self‑report measures, rating scales, structured observations, and semi‑structured interviews.
  • Assist in formulating and delivering individualised intervention plans, under supervision.
  • Contribute to consultation and formulation of complex cases with staff from varied professional backgrounds.
  • Support delivery and evaluation of group treatment programmes.
  • Assist in report writing, risk assessment completion, and clinical administration and data analysis.
  • Help develop a psychologically based framework for care across all settings.
  • Attend and contribute to multidisciplinary meetings.

Teaching, Training & Supervision

  • Receive regular clinical supervision in line with professional guidelines.
  • Develop skills and competencies relevant to current duties.
  • Gain broader experience of professional psychology within the NHS.
  • Support training and development of other staff, particularly in areas related to offending behaviour, learning disabilities, mental health, and personality disorder.

Management, Policy & Service Development

  • Assist in designing and implementing service development projects.
  • Participate in meetings planning and discussing service developments.

Information Resources

  • Maintain personal record keeping, processing and storage of data, and transcribe minutes where appropriate.
  • Ensure databases related to the service area are maintained satisfactorily.

Research and Service Evaluation

  • Assist in designing and implementing audit and research projects focused on assessment and treatment.
  • Support evaluation projects for group programmes.
  • Collect, analyse, and report data, using IT and statistical programmes.
  • Search evidence‑based literature to support evidence‑based practice.
  • Assist in producing audit and research reports for local and national dissemination.

Communications

  • Communicate complex and sensitive information to MDT members and external agencies.
  • Provide formal psychological reports and attend meetings with external agencies.
  • Engage informally with service users and families as required.
Person Specification
Training & Qualifications
  • An upper second‑class honours degree or higher in psychology.
  • Eligible for graduate membership of the British Psychological Society.
  • Further postgraduate training or qualification in relevant areas such as MSc in Forensic Psychology.
Experience & Knowledge
  • Previous experience working within a forensic or secure context.
  • Understanding of the needs of people with learning disabilities, mental illness, personality disorder, and offending histories.
  • Ability to apply psychological knowledge in a forensic learning disability setting.
  • High‑level communication skills, both written and verbal, including in emotive settings.
  • Ability to communicate sensitive information to service users, carers, and colleagues.
  • High standard of report writing.
  • Graduate‑level knowledge of research design and methodology.
  • Experience using database or data analysis software.
  • Experience of paid direct care provision in a forensic or secure context.
  • Previous involvement in psychological assessments and interventions.
  • Experience working as part of an MDT in a relevant setting.
  • Up‑to‑date knowledge of psychological research and national guidance for the client group.
