Job summary

Job description

The Brentwood Community Stroke Service provides multidisciplinary assessment rehabilitation services to individuals who have experienced a stroke in the first year of onset. Our team coordinates the stroke pathway from admission into the acute setting and facilitate transitions into community services.

We offer advice, support and signposting for clients, carers and relatives.

Our aim is to ensure that all patients with stroke have easy, timely and consistent access to specialist services. We seek to utilise specialist knowledge and skills to ensure service users receive an intervention package tailored to their specific needs. We maintain appropriate levels of contact with every patient within the first year of their stroke. This will include a specialist review at six weeks, six months and one year. We work closely with acute and other community healthcare providers, as well as long term and third sector services.

We would like to invite applications from highly motivated individuals for the post of Assistant Psychologist (Assistant Psychologist – Band 5). The post will be based at Brentwood Community Hospital and the post holder will be expected to work across multiple bases in the area (Brentwood, Basildon, Orsett).

The post holder will have regular supervision by an experienced Principal Clinical Psychologist specialising in Neuropsychology. In addition, the post holder will work alongside an multidisciplinary colleagues (Clinical Nurse Specialist, Speech and Language Therapists, Dieticians, Social Workers, Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists). The post-holder will also have the opportunity to link in with a wider Neuropsychology professionals network across NELFT, with monthly meetings across the trust with colleagues in different services.

Main duties of the job

• To conduct, under supervision, cognitive and psychological assessments, formulation, and intervention with service users.
• To triage referrals made to the Stroke service.
• To keep up to date with developments in psychology, stroke, and psychological therapies in order to maintain the highest possible standard of skills and knowledge.
• To participate in service development programmes within the team.
• To be responsible for providing accurate records of information required by the Trust for audit purposes.
• To have organisational knowledge relating to Trust protocols and procedures and adhere to them.

Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office at Goodmayes Hospital, Essex.

Probationary Period

This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).

High Cost Area Supplement – Fringe

(Basildon, Thurrock, Brentwood, Harlow and Dartford only)

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 5% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £1,303 to a maximum of £2,198 p.a. pro rata for part time)
