Job summary

Clear Group’s London-based Property Underwriting team is seeking an Assistant Property Underwriter to help grow and manage the property binder portfolio. You will apply guidelines, draft quotations under supervision, and learn through structured training over 6–12 months with experienced colleagues.

You will support documentation, risk selection, and reporting while aligning with regulatory requirements and company procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Support underwriting process by providing quotations under supervision within the Delegated Authority Scheme.
  • Apply underwriting guidelines and escalate complex decisions as needed.
  • Follow insurer underwriting guides and binder protocols.
  • Assist in selecting risks that contribute to growth and profitability of the Property Binder.
  • Help issue and manage documentation for renewals, MTAs, and new business.
  • Maintain accurate bordereaux returns and underwriting spreadsheets.
  • Assist in preparing regular reports for the internal team and insurers.
  • Support compliance with Green Audits and regulatory requirements.
  • Adhere to industry standards and company procedures.
  • Support the team in insurer meetings and promote the Property underwriting service.

Team Profile

Our Property Underwriting team is a specialist unit within Clear Group, working primarily with delegated authority schemes. Based in our London office and supported by colleagues in Alcester, the team currently comprises 10 underwriters, with an additional 2 team members based remotely. We focus exclusively on Property underwriting and operate under a Binder agreement, with a strong track record of profitable growth. The team plays a vital role in supporting Clear’s broader MGA strategy, offering exciting opportunities for progression within our wider underwriting business. Position Profile

As an Assistant Property Underwriter, you’ll play a key role in growing and managing our property binder portfolio - applying sound technical judgement to deliver accurate, timely underwriting decisions. Whether you're early in your career or looking for a solid foundation in insurance, this is a great opportunity to develop specialist knowledge and join a business that invests in your long-term growth. Key Responsibilities:

Underwriting & Risk Management
  • Support the underwriting process by providing quotations under supervision within the Delegated Authority Scheme
  • Apply underwriting guidelines carefully, escalating complex decisions as needed

Policy Administration & Documentation
  • Help issue and manage documentation for renewals, mid-term adjustments (MTAs), and new business
  • Maintain accurate bordereaux returns and underwriting spreadsheets
Reporting & Compliance
  • Assist in preparing regular reports for the internal team and insurers
  • Support compliance with Green Audits and regulatory requirements
  • Adhere to industry standards and company procedures
Relationship Management
  • Support the team in insurer meetings and build good working relationships
  • Learn about and promote the Property underwriting service within Clear Group
Professional Development
  • Engage actively with ongoing training and Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
