Assistant Project Manager – Construction / Infrastructure

Location: Birmingham (West Midlands)

Salary Range: £30,000 – £40,000 per annum

About Us

Atkins Search is partnering with a prestigious construction consultancy based in Birmingham, delivering landmark infrastructure and civil engineering projects across the the West Midlands. Our client is recognised for high-quality work across public and private sectors and is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to join their growing team.

Role Overview

As an Assistant Project Manager, you’ll support senior project staff in delivering infrastructure, transportation, utilities, energy, public realm, and civil engineering developments from inception to completion. You’ll gain hands‑on experience managing parts of the project lifecycle, working closely with clients, consultants, contractors, and stakeholders.

This role is also open to Graduate Project Managers seeking the next step in their careers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with end-to-end project delivery and coordination
  • Support procurement activities (tendering, supplier evaluation, contract administration)
  • Provide project support: scheduling, reporting, document control
  • Attend client and stakeholder meetings, represent project updates
  • Prepare clear, concise project reports and presentations
  • Monitor and track budgets, costs, and cost control measures
  • Liaise directly with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams
  • Help resolve project risks, issues, and change management
Person Specification / Requirements
  • Experience in a construction or infrastructure environment (consultancy or contractor side)
  • A degree in a construction-related discipline (Civil Engineering, Construction Management, etc.)
  • Strong communication skills; ability to engage with all project stakeholders
  • Self‑motivated, proactive, and driven to learn
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Project, Excel, and project management tools
  • Understanding of construction project delivery principles
  • Ability to multitask, prioritise work, and work under pressure

Location & Travel

This role is based in Birmingham City Centre, covering projects across the Midlands region. Occasional regional travel may be required.
