Job summary

Mott MacDonald is seeking an Assistant Project Manager in the UK with a Buildings focus. You will support multidisciplinary teams across project lifecycles, coordinating plans, schedules, and reporting to ensure delivery within cost and quality targets.

Qualifications

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, Project Management or related discipline
  • Experience in buildings, construction, infrastructure or professional services
  • Understanding of project management principles and delivery processes

About The Business Unit

The Buildings Unit (BLD) has a major presence in Mott MacDonald's regional offices throughout the UK and mainland Europe and focuses on the delivery of complex buildings projects across a range of sectors. Our work spans health, defence, education, justice, aviation, commercial and mixed-use developments, as well as major and complex buildings programmes within cities and communities. We provide both local delivery and technical leadership across the Group's buildings portfolio.

Overview Of The Role

The Assistant Project Manager supports the successful delivery of multidisciplinary buildings projects across a range of sectors, working under the direction of Project Managers and Project Principals.

The role provides project management, coordination and technical support across the project lifecycle, helping to ensure delivery to programme, cost, quality and safety requirements.

This position is well suited to individuals with an engineering, construction or built environment background who are looking to develop a career in project management. The successful candidate will gain experience working with multidisciplinary teams, contractors, clients and stakeholders on a diverse range of projects, including public sector programmes.

This role provides a clear development pathway towards Project Manager positions.

Key responsibilities and duties include:
  • Support the delivery of buildings projects across all project lifecycle stages
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of project plans, programmes, schedules and project reporting
  • Coordinate project information, documentation and project controls activities
  • Support project managers in monitoring programme, cost, risk and resource performance
  • Assist with design coordination and multidisciplinary team management activities
  • Prepare project reports, meeting minutes, action trackers and governance documentation
  • Support engagement with clients, contractors, consultants and stakeholders
  • Assist with project risk, issue and change management processes
  • Support contract administration and commercial management activities under supervision
  • Promote health, safety and wellbeing principles across project activities
  • Assist with bid submissions, proposals and business development activities where required
  • Contribute to a collaborative, inclusive and delivery-focused project culture
Candidate specification

Essential:

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, Project Management or a related discipline
  • Experience working within the buildings, construction, infrastructure or professional services sector
  • Understanding of project management principles and project delivery processes
  • Strong organisational and coordination skills with the ability to manage multiple activities and priorities
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams
  • Proactive and collaborative approach with a willingness to learn and develop
  • Competent in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Willingness to travel to project sites and client locations as required

Desirable:

  • Experience supporting the delivery of buildings or infrastructure projects
  • Experience working with public sector clients or programmes
  • Engineering, technical or design background within the built environment sector
  • Experience in Design & Build or contractor-led delivery environments
  • Understanding of NEC or similar collaborative forms of contract
  • Experience supporting project controls, reporting or contract administration activities
  • Membership of APM, ICE, CIOB, RICS or another relevant professional institution
  • Working towards chartership and/or APM PMQ (or equivalent professional qualification)
  • Security clearance or eligibility to obtain clearance (project dependent)
