Job description

Assistant Project Manager

Department: DevCon

Employment Type: Permanent - Full Time

Location: UK - Remote

Description

Field has entered its next phase of growth. In June, the UK energy regulator, Ofgem, selected 16 long-duration energy storage projects to progress to delivery. Field were awarded 5 of these. Collectively, in MWh terms, our projects are approximately 3 times the capacity of all battery energy storage installed in the UK to date. We currently have 4 projects totalling over 1GWh of energy storage in construction in GB with lots more delivery to do.

Your Mission

As Assistant Project Manager at Field you will support some of the world’s longest duration BESS projects through pre-construction, final-investment decision (FID), construction, commissioning and handover to Operations.

The role requires active management of your projects under the direction of the Project Manager, you therefore need to be highly engaged, resilient, execution-focused and detail-oriented. You’ll need to be passionate about project management fundamentals (e.g. programme, budget, quality) and have proven stakeholder management and communication skills.

You will report to the Head of Delivery (Michael) and work closely with in-house experts across Engineering, QHSE, Procurement, Legal and Development. Day-to-day you will work alongside more senior Project Managers as part of a core project team, driving projects through pre-construction and construction.

This is a role for aspiring project managers to take more responsibility and gain hands‑on project management experience. There will be great opportunities for career progression and we are seeking candidates who want to progress into more senior roles.

Key Responsibilities

What you’ll be doing

This is a broad and varied role with the opportunity to have massive impact. Key responsibilities including:

  • Support the Project Managers (PM) through the pre‑construction phase of the project (following end of the planning & development phase, or following the acquisition of a RTB Asset)

    • Assisting PMs with general day to day activities, with opportunities to take management responsibilities for some packages of work.

    • Coordinate and support an internal project team in the run‑up to Final Investment Decision (FID), with a sharp focus on programme

    • Support planning discharge activities with the development team and engagement with landowners to ensure land‑related obligations are met

    • Support PM's to manage the performance of services carried out by consultants we appoint to support on the execution of the projects such as Technical Advisors, Health and Safety, and Environmental.

    • Manage, update and interpret and the pre‑construction risk register, the master project‑schedule, project‑budget and action tracker (what we call the basics from which all activities are prioritised)

  • Support the PM to manage the construction phase to safely meet agreed time, quality and budget targets

    • Lead by example and ensure our health & safety culture is adopted on all projects

    • Manage our construction contracts, including the BESS supplier, BoP contractor, TO, grid‑compliance and any other packages of work required for the project

    • Help deliver all Client responsibilities noted within the employer’s requirements and interface matrix of construction contracts. This includes managing variations to planning, meeting our lease commitments and sourcing free‑issue equipment and services (e.g. fibre, fiscal metres, RTM provider)

    • Support the by ensuring key project management documents are prepared to an excellent standard in line with the business reporting calendar

  • Ensure the project seamlessly enters commercial operation & close‑out contracts

    • Coordinate with our commercial operations team and asset managers on revenue readiness activities

    • Have a clear understanding on how our construction schedules impact on revenue streams (e.g. Capacity Market milestone dates)

    • Agree (and manage the close‑out) of construction defects and settle final accounts with support of the contract manager

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

The skills you’ll need

  • Engineering, construction, science, commercial or project‑management background. Ideally with minimum 3 years of experience (relevant graduate schemes will also be considered)

  • Experience on energy infrastructure projects is a bonus (batteries, onshore or offshore wind, solar, peaking plants, interconnectors/HVDC, thermal power generation)
