Job summary

Murphy is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to lead aspects of the ETP Project on a Cardiff-based assignment within energy transmission and distribution. You will support design coordination, site surveys, and stakeholder engagement while ensuring SHESQ compliance and timely milestones.

The role requires a site management or site engineer background, strong civils experience in energy, and capability to manage documentation and client communications. Willingness to travel is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Experience in site-based civil engineering or construction environments.
  • Experience coordinating design teams and programmes on large projects.
  • Ability to manage commercial changes and client reporting.
  • Ability to plan site surveys and resource requirements.
  • Experience preparing site documentation in line with SHESQ policies.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure work is carried out in accordance with Company procedures and maintain professionalism.
  • Assist in management of external design teams and meet contract milestones.
  • Capture and report commercial changes to Client with Design Manager and QS.
  • Plan, programme and resource site surveys as per designer's specs.
  • Prepare site paperwork per SHESQ procedures (CPP, RAMS, TBS, Risk Assessments).
  • Liaise with sub-contractors for quotes per procurement procedures.
  • Assist estimator in producing design and survey estimates.
  • Engage with stakeholders early to understand requirements and expectations.
  • Prepare land access strategies and liaise with land agents.
  • Coordinate with environmental team on constraints and mitigations.
  • Assist Engineering in developing detailed designs to Client standards.

Murphy is recruiting for a Assistant Project Manager to work with Energy on the ETP Project based initially in Cardiff.

A day in the life of a Murphy Assistant Project Manager:
  • Ensure that the work in the team is carried out in accordance with Company procedures and that a high level of professionalism is maintained
  • Assist in the management of external design teams on behalf of the Design Manager, ensuring they achieve targets and milestones set with the assistance of the Design Manager, work to and maintain the contract programme ensuring key milestones are achieved
  • Ensure that commercial change is captured and reported to the Client at the earliest opportunity by liaising with the Design Manager and QS
  • Plan, programme and resource site surveys in accordance with the designer's specification
  • Prepare site paperwork associated with survey works in accordance with Company SHESQ procedures and policies (CPP, RAMS, TBS's, Risk Assessments)
  • Liaise with and obtain quotes from sub-contractors for specialist work items, in accordance with Company procurement procedures
  • Assist the estimator in producing estimates to undertake design and survey works
  • Liaise with key stakeholders associated with the scheme at an early stage to understand their requirements and expectations
  • Prepare site land access strategies for schemes and submit to the Client
  • Liaise with the Client's land agents to ensure agreements with third party land owners are made in advance and appropriate to the requirements of schemes
  • Liaise with internal Company environmental team to understand environmental constraints and mitigation on schemes
  • Assist Engineering in the preparation of detailed designs in accordance with Client standards

  • Site Management or Site Engineer background is ideal for this role
  • Proven civils construction experience, preferably within Energy
  • Design management exposure
  • Experienced in preparing site paperwork
  • Strong project management skills and confident when dealing with the Client and working with programmes
  • Computer literate with a good working knowledge of Microsoft packages, including Microsoft Project, and PDF editors
  • Preferable to hold SMSTS
  • Flexible working approach and happy to travel
