Job summary

A leading defense contractor in Barrow-in-Furness seeks an Assistant Project Leader for Designer Management. In this role, you will support the Dreadnought programme, overseeing the 3D integration of structures and leading a team of designers. The ideal candidate will have a background in engineering or design, experience with Teamcenter and FORAN, and strong problem-solving skills. Qualifications

  • Understanding of primary structures essential for role.
  • Engineering or Designer/Draughtspersons background preferred.
  • Experience with Teamcenter and FORAN toolset is required.
  • Must have experience of working with various stakeholders.
  • Previous experience within Structural Engineering environment is favorable.
  • Experience working through various design stages from Concept to Detail Design.
  • HNC qualifications or recognized apprenticeship needed.
  • Experience of Integration of penetration is important.
  • Understanding of steelwork is necessary.

Job Title: Assistant Project Leader – Designer Management (Hull & Outfit)

Salary: Circa: £47,551 (Commensurate with skills and experience)

What you’ll be doing:
  • In this role you will support the Dreadnought programme in delivering to schedule, cost, safety and quality
  • You will be responsible for the 3D integration of primary structures and penetrations including outputs, manufacturing data, installation drawings, part lists and BoM maturity etc
  • Supporting and leading a team of Designers, including apprentices, who will have different levels of experience and knowledge across the Submarine business
  • Responsible for the development of members of your team in your people management hierarchy e.g. PDP, Quality / Code of Conduct discussions and training needs etc
  • Collaborating with all stakeholder groups to solve problems and drive solutions between design requirements, spatial constraints, build and operability
  • Supporting and working closely with NXGEN to ensure toolset capability matches programme needs
Your skills and experiences:
  • Have an understanding of primary structures
  • Engineering or Designer / Draughtspersons background
  • Experience and knowledge of Teamcenter and FORAN toolset
  • Experience of working with various stakeholder
  • Previous experience within a Structural Engineering, Structural Designer, Structural Draughtsperson Environment.
  • Experience working through various design stages and build i.e. Concept and Detail Design
  • HNC qualifications or recognise apprenticeship
  • Experience of Integration of penetration
  • Understanding of steel work

The Primary Structures Team:

The Primary Structures Team is responsible for the design of major steel structures and associated manufacturing outputs.

As an Assistant Project Leader you will report and support your Project Leader in delivering Designer tasks / outputs in line with Dreadnought / NXGD programme demands such as 2D and 3D structure models in the FORAN environment. You will also be responsible for the development and management of the structures team. Career progression is actively encouraged within the team and across the business.
