Assistant Project Engineer - Water Industry

We are currently recruiting for an Assistant Project Engineer to Join our Water Consultancy business. As an Assistant Project Engineer you will collaborate with experienced professionals to deliver innovative designs and contribute to solving complex water‑related challenges: from planning and design implementation, you’ll play a vital role in shaping resilient and sustainable clean water networks for our clients.

They are responsible for supporting the Project Engineer with the delivery of projects ensuring work is carried out in a safe and sustainable manner while meeting the cost, time and quality constraints of the project.

As a key member of the Water Consultancy business, your role as an Assistant Engineer is critical to helping us deliver great projects for our Water Industry clients. You will be working alongside a multi‑disciplinary team of water project experts on a range of capital delivery projects.

Your Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the design and planning of water infrastructure projects.
  • Prepare and review survey data.
  • Prepare technical reports, drawings and specifications.
  • Analyse data from flow, pressure and water quality assessments to identify potential issues and recommend solutions.
  • Work with senior engineers, clients and other stakeholders to ensure project objectives are met.
  • Ensure all designs and projects adhere to local and national regulations, sustainability practices and industry standards and meet all responsibilities as outlined in the RPS HSE policy and management systems.
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:
  • Strong, demonstratable understanding of the hydraulic network.
  • Water industry knowledge: clean water networks, infrastructure and water quality parameters.
  • Good communication skills – oral and written.
  • Demonstrate a level of competency in creating schematics, drawings and technical documents.
  • Understanding of field work relevant to the role.
  • QA experience of reviewing work produced by others.
  • Experience working in a team setting, with exposure to client‑faced interactions considered a plus.
  • Strong data analysis skills.
  • Capable of managing multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Demonstrable experience required, but not essential, in discipline‑specific network modelling applications such as InfoWorks ICM, InfoWorks WS Pro or SynerGEE, with InfoAsset experience also beneficial.
  • Knowledge of GIS software (preferably MapInfo, ArcGIS, QGIS).
  • Proficient with MS Office suite focusing on Excel and Power BI being advantageous.
Qualifications:
  • Preferably degree qualified in a relevant technical subject.
