Job summary

AVK is seeking an Assistant Project Accountant to join our Finance team in Thatcham. You will prepare the accounting behind every project, handling revenue recognition across delivery models and managing project cost accounting, WIP, accruals and deferred revenue.

You will support month-end journals, client invoicing, and project reporting, ensuring data integrity and timely information. The role offers a flexible hybrid working arrangement within the UK.

Qualifications

• Qualified or working towards professional accounting qualifications.
• Strong knowledge of double-entry bookkeeping and reconciliations.
• Understanding of percentage-of-completion revenue recognition.
• Experience in project or contract environments with phased work.
• Working knowledge of ERP systems and advanced Excel.

Job description

We're looking for an Assistant Project Accountant to join our Finance team.

In this role, you'll be responsible for preparing the accounting behind every project. It covers revenue recognition across all delivery models, from short-cycle services work through to multi-year contracts and made-to-order manufacturing, maintaining the schedules that support percentage completion, WIP, accrued and deferred revenue, together with project cost accounting. It prepares the reconciliations and month-end journals that underpin the project position, raises client invoicing on instruction from Commercial, and produces the reporting that shows how time and cost have been captured across the portfolio.

Requirements

• Part or fully qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ACA or equivalent), or qualified by experience
• A solid grounding in double entry, accruals accounting and balance sheet reconciliation
• Understanding of revenue recognition on a percentage completion basis and the supporting accounting across the P&L and balance sheet
• Experience of project or contract environments where work is delivered in phases or across disciplines
• Experience of project or contract environments where work is delivered in phases or across disciplines
• Working knowledge of ERP systems; strong Excel
• Confident dealing with people outside Finance, including chasing information and explaining why it is needed
• Experience of working in a dynamic finance function, with the organisation to hold accuracy across competing deadlines and a fast pace
