Job summary

Stoke-on-Trent City Council is seeking an Assistant Planning Officer to join our Development Management Team. You will assess planning applications, undertake site visits, prepare reports and advise customers and elected Members to help shape sustainable development in the city.

The role requires a planning qualification or equivalent experience, good knowledge of the UK planning system and strong organisational skills.

Qualifications

• Relevant planning qualification or working towards, or equivalent experience.
• Solid understanding of the UK planning system and development management.
• Ability to interpret policies and apply them to proposals.
• Strong organisational skills and ability to manage priorities.

Responsibilities

• Assess and determine householder and minor planning applications.
• Undertake site visits and liaise with applicants and consultees.
• Prepare clear reports and recommendations to support decisions.
• Provide professional planning advice to customers and Members.
• Manage allocated caseload to meet statutory timescales.
