Overview

A Vacancy at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for the post of Assistant Medical Secretary / Administrator, based in the Ophthalmology Department at York Hospital.

We are seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic, and flexible individual, who can work effectively using their own initiative, as well as being part of this superb Administrative Team. This job is advertised as full time, however we are open to discussion regarding part time hours for this post - please contact Dominique on 01904 724510. Please note interviews for this position are held in person only and remote interviews will not be available.

Responsibilities
  • Provide support to the Medical Secretaries and their Consultant Teams.
  • Be a proficient Audio Typist with the ability to transcribe complex audio tapes and digital dictation, including complicated medical terminology.
  • Demonstrate excellent administration/secretarial skills and audio-typing experience.
  • Have a good understanding of customer relations; regularly deal with queries from patients, consultants and GPs.
  • Use electronic work lists to actively monitor patient pathways alongside general administrative tasks.
  • Work well under pressure, prioritise the demands of a busy office, and manage time and workload efficiently and effectively.
  • Work unsupervised and communicate with consultants on a regular basis.
Qualifications
  • GCSE English Language grade C or above (or equivalent).
  • Relevant typing qualification of RSA II standard (or demonstrable keyboard skills).
  • Previous clerical/administrative experience, preferably in a healthcare setting.
