Assistant Domestic Services Manager at Peterborough City Hospital. Salary: £33,081 per annum. Location: Peterborough City Hospital (PFI). Department: Medirest Domestic Services - Compass Group UK&I. Contract Type: Full-time | Permanent. Reports to: Domestic Services Manager.

About the Role

We’re looking for an experienced and motivated Assistant Domestic Services Manager to join our team at Peterborough City Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key leadership role in delivering exceptional domestic services that keep our healthcare environment safe, clean, and welcoming for patients, visitors, and staff.

You’ll support the Domestic Services Manager in overseeing a large, dedicated team — ensuring high standards of cleaning, compliance, and customer service are consistently met. You’ll also help manage performance, budgets, and staffing while promoting a positive, “One Compass” culture across your department.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Lead, motivate, and develop a team of domestic supervisors and operatives to deliver outstanding service.
  • Deputise for the Domestic Services Manager as required, ensuring continuity of service and standards.
  • Oversee daily operations, ensuring all cleaning and infection control standards meet contractual and NHS requirements.
  • Manage budgets effectively, minimising agency and overtime costs, and ensuring efficient use of resources.
  • Liaise closely with clients to maintain strong relationships, address issues proactively, and deliver continuous improvement.
  • Conduct audits, inspections, and reviews to maintain high performance and compliance.
  • Support health, safety, and environmental standards, ensuring all incidents and training are appropriately managed and recorded.
  • Champion colleague engagement and development through training, appraisals, and clear communication.
  • Participate in the on-call rota and work occasional weekends or evenings to maintain service delivery.
What We’re Looking For

Essential:

  • Proven people management experience in domestic, facilities, or healthcare environments.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills, able to prioritise and manage multiple tasks.
  • Good commercial awareness and understanding of budgets and cost control.
  • Competent in using IT systems and Microsoft Office.
  • GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
  • A proactive, flexible approach with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Desirable:

  • Experience working in a PFI or healthcare environment.
  • Recognised industry qualification (e.g. BICSc, NVQ).
  • Understanding of infection control standards.
  • Financial acumen and strong problem-solving skills.
