A leading public sector trading company in the UK seeks an Assistant Management Accountant. This role involves ownership of key accounting activities, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and supporting budgeting processes. Ideal candidates will have an AAT Level 3 qualification or equivalent and strong IT skills with Excel. Additional benefits include a salary of £30,000 per annum and 25 days of annual leave.

Qualifications

  • AAT Level 3 qualification or equivalent; degree in Finance or Accounting desirable.
  • Strong understanding of core accounting principles and practices.
  • Confident IT user with proficiency in Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Proactive and self-motivated, able to work independently and as part of a team.

As an Assistant Management Accountant, you'll take ownership of key accounting activities, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting. You'll support budgeting and forecasting processes, maintain effective financial controls and play a key part in providing insight that supports decision‑making across the business.What you'll be doing

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and post monthly prepayments, accruals and journal entries.
  • Complete balance sheet reconciliations and maintain accurate supporting schedules.
  • Produce management accounts and conduct variance analysis for designated areas.
  • Analyse overhead costs and support cost control initiatives.
  • Assist with ad hoc financial reporting for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Reconcile payroll postings and internal recharges as required.
  • Maintain audit file evidence and support audit preparation activities.
  • Contribute to ad hoc finance projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
  • AAT Level 3 qualification or equivalent; degree in Finance or Accounting desirable.
  • Strong understanding of core accounting principles and practices.
  • Confident IT user with proficiency in Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Proactive and self‑motivated, able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Eager to learn and take on new responsibilities as skills develop.
