Assistant Management Accountant

The purpose of the post is to support the Finance Business Partner and Directorate Accountant in providing information to the Finance Managers and Budget Holders for the Surgical Service Lines.

The Finance Team has over 50 members of staff working in Financial Accounts, Management Accounts and Contracting across the Bedford and Luton Site. Main duties of the job

The purpose of the post is to support the Directorate Accountants in providing information to the Finance Managers and Budget Holders ensuring that the Trust meets both its financial and performance targets.

Job responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

To help produce timely and accurate financial statements for service lines on a monthly basis through the calculation and posting of accruals and prepayments.

To support budget holders in managing their financial position such that the Trust is able to achieve its financial targets. This will include providing complex and sensitive information, and will require skills of negotiation and persuasion.

Support directorate accountants with variance analysis.

Deal with queries from budget holders and other member of the finance team.

To provide reports of the service lines financial position to the Directorate Accountants to allow aggregation of the Trusts financial position on a timely monthly basis.

To analyse financial trends involving many streams of data and forecast financial expenditure.

Raise invoices to other organisations for ad hoc/regular services provided.

To help prepare annual service line budgets for service planning, supporting budget holders through the budget setting process.

To monitor & control budgetary changes throughout the year for relevant service lines.

To act independently and show initiative under the supervision of Directorate Accountants.

To provide ad hoc support to Directorate Accountants, Finance Managers, Director of Finance & other team members as required.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Good standard of education - A level or equivalent
Studying for Accounting qualification
  • Obtained AAT intermediate level of equivalent
  • Other accounting qualification
  • Ability to communicate financial information to non-finance professionals
  • Application is well written, concise and well presented
Knowledge of Excel
  • Demonstrates use of Excel for their current or past role
  • Has attended Excel courses
Personal Skills
  • Ability to work independently and show initiative
