As an Assistant Highway Engineer, you will be part of a team of design engineers delivering a large variety of highway schemes throughout Hampshire, enabling the efficient running and delivery of the planned maintenance programmes.

Apprenticeship Details and Our Values:
As already mentioned, this position provides an opportunity for you to attend training and complete a Level 4 or Level 6 (Degree) Civil Engineering apprenticeship, to develop knowledge, skills and behaviours as set out in the apprenticeship standard.

What you’ll do:

You will assist Highway Engineers and Principal Engineers to design and help manage highway engineering maintenance schemes, including carriageway resurfacing, footway reconstruction, structural drainage and surface treatment schemes within the Planned Maintenance team. The role also includes some training and mentoring of junior staff.

What we’re looking for:

Appropriate highways maintenance experience, flexibility and the ability to manage a workload with minimum supervision are key requirements. An interest and appreciation of highway engineering and the management/maintenance of a large road network. In addition, good customer care and communication skills are essential.

You will have the ability to fulfil the travel requirements of the role and, as required, be able to work out of hours on occasions if required. You will be required to travel to various locations within Hampshire, and it is essential that you have a current drivers’ licence and access to a reliable vehicle on a regular basis.
