Position Details
Job Title: HIGH SCHOOL ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL
Assist the principal in the leadership, operation, and supervision of the high school.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree, emphasis in educational administration / leadership preferred
- Valid State of Michigan Administrative Certificate (ES) (or eligibility to obtain)
- Valid State of Michigan Teaching Certificate
- Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience or previous administrative experience
- Understanding of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (preferred)
- Knowledge of instructional best practices that meet the developmental and individualized needs of all students
- Knowledge and understanding of secondary school curriculum, assessment, and instructional practices
- Successful experience with building-level leadership and / or leading committees
- Effective verbal, listening, and writing skills
- Effective computer literacy skills
Essential Duties
- Ability to work cooperatively with the principal in planning and administering all aspects of the high school operations
- Ability to provide instructional leadership and foster a positive and innovative teaching and learning environment to encourage students to perform at their highest level
- Ability to develop, facilitate, evaluate, and lead professional learning and growth with students and staff
- Ability to design opportunities to empower students, staff, and parents to be integrally involved in all aspects of the school’s culture and climate
- Ability to lead and foster a positive, inclusive school community
- Collaborate, facilitate, and strengthen student opportunities and school improvement efforts
- Ability to provide leadership and supervision for after-school athletic and / or co-curricular activities
- Ability to communicate effectively and relate positively with students, parents, staff, and members of the community
- Ability to problem solve, take ownership of tasks, think critically, and resolve issues
- Ability to administer effective student discipline and an attendance program that promotes a safe and orderly environment conducive to teaching and learning
- Ability to lead, develop, and supervise curricular and extracurricular programs that meet the needs and interests of the students of the community
- Knowledge, understanding, and application of laws and evidence-based practices relating to MTSS, Restorative Practices, Special Education, and Section 504
- Ability to coordinate state standardized testing, Advanced Placement testing, and Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD)
- Collaborate with parents, teachers, counseling department staff, and building staff to develop and implement strategies that will improve student behavior and academic achievement
- Ability to lead and oversee safety inspections and safety drill practice activities
- Ability to ensure compliance with district policies, state laws, and federal regulations
- Ability to observe, supervise, evaluate, and lead certified and non-certified staff
- Excellent attendance record
- Ability to perform other duties as assigned
Location: East Grand Rapids High School
Rate: Commensurate with experience and qualifications
Contract: 210 contract days
Start Date: As mutually agreed upon
