Coppice Performing Arts School is an ambitious secondary school in Wolverhampton serving a disadvantaged community and is part of the highly successful Central Learning Partnership Trust.

The school is on a mission to become one of the highest performing state schools in the borough of Wolverhampton by September 2030. GCSE outcomes in the Summer of 2026 improved substantially from the previous academic year and we are seeking to appoint an exceptional leader to contribute to this continued improvement specifically within the Maths department. You should have a proven track record of raising attainment within your own teaching groups and on a wider scale. The Opportunity

We are seeking to appoint an Assistant Headteacher to lead our Maths department. The successful candidate will be required to lead the Maths department, and further responsibilities will be discussed if appropriate subject to the successful candidates’ experience and skills. The successful candidate will be a highly ambitious leader and will strive for the Maths department to become one of the most successful Maths department in the borough of Wolverhampton by September 2030 and for all students at GCSE to achieve at least a standard pass (grade 4). The role will also offer scope to work collaboratively across our other two local secondary schools (Heath Park and Moseley Park) sharing best practice, developing a common curriculum and teaching and learning approach. This post would be excellent preparation for future leadership roles.

Maths is taught across Key Stage 3, 4 and 5 at the school. With experience in your subject specialist area, an excellent teaching background and strong leadership skills you are ready to take on a role that will have a major impact on learning. You should be able to be innovative in enabling students to develop higher level thinking skills and promote genuine interest in Maths. You should be able to work as part of a team which has as its core aims the continued raising of students’ achievement across the department. A strong commitment to student learning is essential. You will have responsibility for driving improvements in curriculum, teaching and learning and attainment within the Maths department and wider whole school responsibilities based on the successful candidates’ skills and experience.

Key Purpose of the Post

To be an effective, dynamic professional, who is accountable for the development of Maths provision at Coppice Performing Arts School and the wider local secondary schools (Heath Park and Moseley Park).

To be a strategic and supportive member of the senior team, playing a key role in the development of the school as an innovative, high performing and emotionally intelligent organisation, effectively managing the agenda of change to raise standards in the Maths department and wider whole school priorities.
