Job summary

Abbeyfield School is seeking a fixed-term pastoral support professional for a one-year maternity cover, starting 1 January 2027. You will work with the Head of Year to enhance student wellbeing, attendance and development in a fast-paced environment, applying restorative approaches and maintaining high standards of conduct.

You will build strong relationships with students, families and staff, contributing to a culture where every student feels safe and able to achieve their best.

Qualifications

• Experience working with young people
• Strong understanding of behaviour management strategies
• Ability to build positive, supportive relationships that encourage high aspirations
• Confidence to address challenges and support restorative approaches
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with students, families, colleagues and external stakeholders with professionalism and confidentiality

Job description

Fixed-term maternity cover in the pastoral team at Abbeyfield School, a Creative Education Trust school, for one year from 1 January 2027, working alongside the Head of Year. The post supports student wellbeing, attendance, behaviour and personal development, and builds relationships with students, families and staff. The 37-hour week in a fast-paced setting calls for high expectations of young people and a restorative approach to behaviour. Enhanced DBS and right to work in the UK are required, and visa sponsorship is not available.
