Job Description

Reporting to the Group Manager (Traffic & Road Safety), you will play a key role in contributing to the successful delivery of Glasgow City Council, and NRS aims and objectives.

Leading the technical and engineering team within NRS Traffcom, you will be responsible for ensuring the city’s transport network operates effectively. This includes overseeing the maintenance of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), such as the traffic signal network, variable message signs, and traffic cameras. You will help shape new projects that support the city’s vision for safer, more accessible, and sustainable active travel.

We are looking for someone with strong communication and IT skills, capable of assessing complex technical issues and developing effective solutions. You will be expected to manage your workload under pressure, respond to emergency situations, and deliver results to tight deadlines.

A Degree / HND / HNC in Civil Engineering or an electrical discipline, together with a current driving licence, are essential. You must also bring experience of working in a roads or traffic related environment, with a sound understanding of traffic signal operation and design, including relevant guidance such as Chapter 6 and traffic signal control methods. Previous experience in traffic signal maintenance or design would be an advantage.

A Standard Disclosure Scotland check and NPPV level 1 vetting will be essential on taking up appointment. Please note the successful candidates will be required to pay for their own Disclosure Scotland check.
