Assistant Gardener – Overview

As Assistant Gardener, you’ll be working with a team to deliver the day-to-day care of the garden and maintain high presentation standards. This role will include a range of practical tasks to develop, improve and look after the garden and contribute to the delivery of projects.

Salary: £12.75 per hour

Contract: Fixed Term Contract until 31-Jan-2026

Hours/working pattern: Part-time, 22.5 hours per week

What it's like to work here

In this role, you’ll report to the Senior Gardener and be part of a larger team of 14 and volunteers.

What you'll be doing
  • Assisting with the care of the garden, maintenance of path surfaces and infrastructure, mulching, hedge cutting and lawn mowing.
  • Working alongside gardeners and a team of volunteers.
  • Talking to the public every day, answering a variety of garden‑related questions and discussing what you are doing with pride.
  • Approaching tasks with a practical mindset and an interest in plants.
  • Using machinery such as tractors, hedge trimmers and pedestrian mowers (training will be provided).
