Job summary

JCB is seeking an experienced Assistant Financial Controller to join our Finance team in Rocester. You will be a trusted partner to operational and support teams, delivering accurate reporting, forecasting and budgeting in line with Group Finance requirements.

Based in Rocester, this permanent role offers leadership of a five-strong team, exposure across the business, and opportunities to drive continuous improvement while supporting commercial decision-making.

Qualifications

• Qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA).
• Experience in a similar finance role in a fast-paced environment.
• Advanced Excel skills and ability to work with large data sets.
• Manufacturing experience preferred.
• Experience with SAP or ERP systems.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management.
• Organised with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Proactive mindset and willingness to challenge the status quo.
• Experience mentoring and developing team members.

Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly P&L and Balance Sheet reporting.
• Complete key balance sheet reconciliations and ensure accuracy.
• Analyze performance vs forecasts and budgets; identify variances.
• Provide detailed financial commentary for management.
• Lead monthly forecasting and rolling 12-month plan.
• Coordinate annual budgeting process across the business.
• Partner with operations to support commercial decision-making.
• Support cost reduction and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Drive improvements in financial processes and reporting.
• Manage and develop a team of five.

The Opportunity - Assistant Financial Controller

We are looking for a proactive and commercially minded Assistant Financial Controller to join our Finance team.

As a key member of the Business Unit Finance function, you will work closely with both internal and external stakeholders to provide accurate financial information, support business decision-making and help drive sustained profitable growth. Acting as a trusted finance partner to operational and support teams, you will play a pivotal role in delivering accurate reporting, forecasting and budgeting activities in line with Group Finance requirements.

What does this role involve day to day?

• Preparing monthly Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet reporting in line with the Group Accounting Calendar.
• Completing key balance sheet reconciliations and ensuring the accuracy of financial records.
• Analysing actual performance against forecasts and budgets, identifying key variances and trends.
• Producing detailed financial commentary and performance updates for business management teams.
• Leading the monthly forecasting process and maintaining a rolling 12-month forecast in collaboration with key stakeholders.
• Coordinating the annual budgeting process, ensuring robust financial plans are developed across the business.
• Partnering with operational and support teams to provide financial insight and support commercial decision-making.
• Supporting cost reduction initiatives and continuous improvement activities across the business.
• Driving improvements in financial processes, controls and reporting efficiencies.
• Managing and supporting a team of five, providing guidance, development and day-to-day leadership.

This will be suited to you if ...

• You're a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA).
• You have experience in a similar finance role, ideally within a fast-paced business environment.
• You possess strong Excel skills and are confident working with large volumes of financial data.
• Experience within a manufacturing environment would be advantageous.
• Experience using SAP or similar ERP systems would be beneficial.
• You have strong analytical skills and can interpret financial information to support business decision-making.
• You're highly organised and capable of managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
• You have excellent attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high levels of accuracy.
• You're confident communicating with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.
• You're proactive and enjoy challenging the status quo, identifying opportunities to improve processes and drive efficiencies.
• You have experience leading, developing or mentoring team members and enjoy supporting the growth of others.
