A legal services company in Bolton is looking for an Assistant File Handler to support the Lead File Handler in managing and progressing Asbestos claims. Candidates should have prior experience with Asbestos disease cases, strong negotiation skills, and the ability to work under pressure. Responsibilities

  • Assist Lead File Handler in handling Asbestos claims.
  • Manage and progress claims for the Lead File Handler.
  • Review documents and prepare reports.
  • Deal with disclosure and review evidence.
  • Conduct investigations and obtain witness statements.
  • Instruct Counsel and Experts.
  • Research and draft general documents.
  • Attend conferences and trials with Counsel.
  • Deal with routine correspondence.
  • Make court appointments including advocacy.
  • Provide initial and further reports/advice to clients.
  • Liaise directly with Claims Handlers and Manager.
  • Comply with client instructions and engage in client development.
  • Assist team in achieving goals and objectives.
  • Meet agreed targets and ensure compliance with SRA Standards.

Skills

Experience in handling and/or assisting on Asbestos disease cases
Effective negotiator
Ability to use own initiative
Flexibility in relation to tasks undertaken
Good listening and verbal communication skills
Ability to maintain concentration and pay attention to detail

Description

To assist Lead File Handler in handling Asbestos claims.
To manage and progress claims for the Lead File Handler in accordance with the strategies and action plan as determined by the Lead File Handler.

Key Responsibilities
  • Reviewing documents and preparing reports
  • Dealing with disclosure
  • Reviewing evidence (including medical / personnel records / Companies House records)
  • Conducting investigations with Insured / obtaining witness statements
  • Instructing Counsel / Experts
  • Research
  • Drafting generally
  • Attending conferences and Trials with Counsel
  • Dealing with routine correspondence
  • Court appointments including own advocacy
  • Providing initial reports and further reports / advice to clients, when requested
  • Liaising directly with the Claims Handlers and Manager
  • Complying with Clients instructions
  • Willing to engage in Client development when required
  • Assisting team in achieving goals and objectives
  • Meeting agreed targets
  • To ensure compliance with the SRA Standards & Regulations

Working Hours

35 hours per week, Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm with 1 unpaid hour for lunch. Primary location for this role is Bolton, Parklands Office.
