Job summary

Avara Foods is seeking an Assistant Farm Manager at the Marchington site. The role focuses on wellbeing and performance of the livestock, and managing a modern farm environment to high standards.

You will work with the farm management team, supervise staff, and ensure biosecurity and hygiene are maintained. NVQ/Diploma level 3 in Poultry production or equivalent is desirable; own transport is essential.

Qualifications

• Livestock experience is essential or highly desirable.
• NVQ/Diploma level 3 in Poultry production or related Agriculture qualification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain environmental conditions for bird welfare and biosecurity.
• Feed, vaccinate and grade birds.
• Ensure site maintenance and Avara Foods standards are met.
• Supervise staff and third parties; uphold Health and Safety procedures.
• Maintain records as required by company and UK law.
• Operate the farm within cost management parameters.
• Ensure high standards of animal welfare and hygiene.
• Work on other farm sites as needed; cover for Farm Manager.

Monday to Sunday, 6 days a week 07:30 - 16:00

What will you be doing as an Assistant Farm Manager at Avara?

As an Assistant Farm Manager, you’ll work closely with the farm management team, managing on a day-to-day basis, a modern company farm. The main responsibility of an Assistant Farm Manager is for the wellbeing and performance of the livestock, although this will extend, by definition, to the up-keep and appearance of the whole site.

What will your key responsibilities as an Assistant Farm Manager include?

• Maintain optimum environmental conditions to ensure bird welfare and biosecurity practices are maintained
• Complete feeding, vaccinating and grading of the birds
• Ensure site maintenance and general Avara Foods standards are met and completed
• Supervise staff and third parties whilst on site, ensuring adherence to Health and Safety procedures
• Comply with legislative and assurance scheme standards
• Maintain accurate records as stipulated by Avara Foods & UK legislation (goods and services received, generator, alarm logs, crop records, medication register, accident book etc.)
• Operate the farm within effective cost management parameters
• Ensure that high standards of animal welfare, hygiene and husbandry practice are maintained
• Working on other farm sites, as and when needed
• Covering in the Farm manager’s absence
• Reporting to the Farm Manager

What You’ll Need To Be Successful

• Own transport is essential - you may be required to travel to different sites
• Previous livestock experience, not necessarily poultry but an excellent stock person
• NVQ/Diploma level 3 in Poultry production or similar Agriculture qualification is desirable but training will be given
• Need to have effective communication and people skills essential
• Demonstrate a willingness to learn and self-motivation
• Able to work with minimal supervision and carry out manual duties
