Job summary

Apple Technical Recruitment (UK) is seeking an Assistant Estimator for a permanent role near Stevenage, Hertfordshire. The successful candidate will support cost plans, tender pricing, and pre-construction activities, working under a Team Leader to develop experience in a busy pre-contract team.

The ideal candidate has 1-2 years of estimating experience, a construction-related degree, and proficiency with Excel (Conquest is a plus).

Qualifications

• 1–2 years' experience as trainee/assistant estimator or cost planner.
• Experience producing BoQs, take-offs and cost plans.
• Familiarity with JCT D&B forms of contract advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Assist with managing cost plans and pricing of tenders under JCT D&B forms of contract.
• Assist with producing BoQs, take-offs, full cost plans and target cost reporting.

Company & Project: An established, privately owned and profitable main contractor operating in the Mixed-use, Leisure, MOJ and Education sectors is currently expanding its estimating team. The successful business is currently looking for a talented Assistant Estimator to join its pre-contract team in Hertfordshire.

Our client has secured a number of key projects in 2026. They are now looking to add a new Assistant Estimator to their team to focus on their busy tender pipeline.

The business has a long-standing pre-contract team with an experienced Team Leader who would be an excellent mentor for the successful individual.

This opportunity would suit an estimator with 1-2 years of experience working for either a main contractor or a subcontractor, looking to expand their experience and develop their career further.

Duties & Responsibilities: The successful candidate will take responsibility for assisting with managing the cost plans and pricing of tenders under JCT D&B forms of contract.

You will assist with producing BoQs, take-offs, full cost plans, and target cost reporting, with occasional pre-construction surveying duties including deeds of appointment and procurement.

Desirable Experience:

• 2 years+ of experience with a main contractor or subcontractor as a trainee or assistant estimator, pre-construction surveyor, or cost planner.
• Use of Conquest software would be advantageous but not essential. Excel knowledge is desirable.
• Previous Roles: Trainee Estimator OR Assistant Estimator OR Pre-Construction Surveyor OR Intermediate Estimator OR Cost Planner.

Qualifications & Skills: Degree or HND/HNC in a construction-related subject. Excel or Conquest software experience is preferable.
