Job summary

The Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation (CIHT) is seeking an engineering designer in Salford to support highway projects through feasibility, concept and detailed design. You will contribute to tender documentation and supervise construction activities, while ensuring health and safety compliance and adherence to programme timelines.

With a professional development focus, you will engage with clients and external organisations, applying industry guidelines and standards.

Qualifications

  • HVAC? (remove)
  • Higher National Certificate or Diploma in Engineering or equivalent.
  • Bachelor level design related degree is preferred or demonstrated experience in design, implementation and supervision of projects.
  • Ability to engage effectively with external organisations, statutory bodies and clients.
  • Knowledge of relevant standards and guidelines including Design Manual for Roads and Bridges, European standards, and codes of practice.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with feasibility, concept and detailed design for highway projects.
  • Prepare tender documentation and assist with contract documentation and supervision on site.
  • Ensure compliance with health & safety standards and CDM Regulations.
  • Support delivery milestones to meet client requirements and programme timescales.
  • Develop personal deadlines and contribute to project timelines.

Your role

  • Assist with the technical aspects required for project delivery including feasibility, concept design, detailed design, preparation of tender and contract documentation, invitation of tenders and supervision of construction works on site.
  • Contribute to implementing projects to meet the requirements of quality, health & safety, environmental standards, and programme timescales to both national and corporate standards.
  • Assist with preparing schemes for tender.
  • Ensure compliance with a high regard to Health and Safety and the application of the CDM Regulations and other related legislation.
  • Set and work to personal deadlines and targets to meet deadlines, programme requirements and client needs.

Your profile

  • A minimum Higher National Certificate/Diploma in Engineering or a design related subject (or be working towards one).
  • Preferably, a Bachelor level degree or above, in a design related subject or proven experience in the design, implementation and supervision of engineering projects.
  • The ability to deal appropriately and effectively with external organisations, statutory bodies and clients.
  • The ability to undertake feasibility studies including preparing reports, cost estimates, investigating problems, and identifying options.
  • Working knowledge of relevant legislation and guidelines including the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges, British and European Standards, Eurocodes and Codes of Practice.
  • Initiative and ingenuity in solving engineering problems.
  • Good communication skills, both orally and in writing, both at a general and technical level.
  • At least working capability with AutoCAD software and a desire to enhance your skills.
  • Full UK driving licence.
