Job summary

Morgan McKinley is seeking an Assistant Director of Finance for a senior leadership role in a multi-service not-for-profit. You will work with the Finance Director to shape strategy, oversee core financial operations, ensure compliance and partner with service leads to support the social mission.

You will manage statutory reporting, audits and treasury, while presenting to the Board and guiding funding bids and grants with a values-driven approach.

Qualifications

• Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with senior finance leadership experience.
• Proven ability to manage statutory accounts (FRS102, Charity SORP) and year-end audits.
• Strong technical grasp of statutory accounting, compliance, risk and VAT.

Responsibilities

• Direct and mentor the finance team across transactional, payroll and processing workstreams.
• Lead statutory annual accounts preparation and year-end audit processes.
• Oversee treasury, cash management, forecasting and capex tracking.
• Advise budget holders across housing, youth work and community services in clear terms.
• Present balance sheet updates to the Board and model funding scenarios.

About the Role

We are seeking a qualified, forward-thinking finance professional to step into a senior leadership role and help shape our clients long-term strategy. Working alongside the Finance Director in a growing, multi-million-pound organisation, you will lead core financial operations, ensure robust compliance, and partner with multi-service leaders to support our social mission.

Key Responsibilities

• Team Leadership: Direct and mentor the core finance team across transactional, payroll, and processing workflows.
• Statutory & Audit: Take full ownership of statutory annual accounts (FRS102, Charity SORP) and lead the year-end audit process.
• Treasury & Capital: Oversee group cash management, short/long-term forecasting, and capital expenditure tracking.
• Business Partnering: Advise non-finance budget holders across diverse sectors (housing, youth work, community hubs) without using technical jargon.
• Governance & Growth: Present balance sheet updates to the Board and model financial scenarios for new funding proposals, grants, and bids.

What We Are Looking For

• Qualifications: Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent).
• Experience: Proven financial leadership in a complex, multi-service environment (social housing, charity, or NFP experience is highly desirable).
• Skills: Strong technical grasp of statutory accounting, financial compliance, risk management, and VAT.
