Job summary

Tagged Resources Recruitment specialists supplying Fashion, Beauty, Food and Home is seeking an Assistant Girlswear Designer in Manchester. The role supports the design team in developing jerseywear ranges for girlswear and some ladieswear, while collaborating with the Senior Designer to tailor ranges to retailers.

You will research trends, create direction boards, and prepare CADs, tech packs and fabric samples.

Qualifications

  • 1+ year of fashion design experience in girlswear, ladieswear or jerseywear.
  • Strong commercial awareness and understanding of the UK high-street market.
  • Excellent trend interpretation and research skills.
  • Proficient in Adobe Illustrator; Photoshop/InDesign knowledge advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Senior Designer in developing commercial jerseywear ranges for girlswear and selected ladieswear accounts.
  • Research latest fashion and retail trends and translate them into design direction.
  • Create trend direction boards covering colour, shape, fabric and styling details.
  • Conduct retailer-specific trend and competitor research to inform design decisions.
  • Assist in identifying new fabric developments and market opportunities with the factory team.
  • Prepare for customer meetings by compiling research packs, CADs, fabric swatches and garment samples.
  • Attend customer presentations and design meetings, noting actions and following up.
  • Draw and amend CADs using Adobe Illustrator.
  • Create accurate tech packs following customer selections.
  • Work cross-functionally with UK and Pakistan teams to communicate development queries clearly.
  • Track garment and fabric developments from concept through sampling stages.
  • Maintain an organised design workspace and support department operations.

Job description

We are looking for a creative and commercially minded Assistant Girlswear Designer to join a busy design team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a passion for Jerseywear and trend-led fashion who is keen to develop their career within a fast-paced supplier environment. The successful candidate will support the Girlswear accounts, while also assisting on selected Ladieswear jersey accounts. Working closely with the Senior Designer, you will help create commercially strong, best-selling ranges tailored to the handwriting and customer profile of each retailer.

Key elements of role are as follows:
  • Supporting the Senior Designer in developing commercial jerseywear ranges for girlswear and selected ladieswear accounts.
  • Researching and identify the latest fashion and retail trends, translating them into relevant design direction.
  • Creating inspiring trend direction boards covering colour, shape, fabric and styling details.
  • Conducting retailer-specific trend and competitor research to inform design decisions.
  • Assisting in identifying new fabric developments and market opportunities, working closely with the factory team to realise fabric newness.
  • Preparing for customer meetings by compiling research packs, CADs, fabric swatches and garment samples.
  • Attending customer presentations and design meetings alongside the Designer, assisting with note-taking and follow-up actions.
  • Drawing and amend CADs using Adobe Illustrator.
  • Creating accurate and detailed tech packs following customer selection meetings.
  • Working cross-functionally with UK and Pakistan teams to ensure all development queries are communicated clearly and efficiently.
  • Tracking garment and fabric developments from concept through sampling stages.
  • Helping maintain an organised and efficient design workspace and support the smooth running of the department.
Skills & Experience
  • Minimum 1 year of fashion design experience within girlswear, ladieswear or jerseywear, gained outside of a university placement year.
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Fashion Design, Textile Design or a related subject.
  • Strong commercial awareness and understanding of the UK high-street market.
  • Excellent research and trend interpretation skills.
  • Proficient in Adobe Illustrator; Photoshop/InDesign knowledge is advantageous
