Overview

An exceptional opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Design Manager to join a leading Tier 1 contractor on a landmark £320 million project in Cardiff.

This is a career-defining role for someone looking to develop their design management skills within one of the UK's most respected construction businesses.

You'll be site-based, working closely with a talented and collaborative design team, supporting the Senior Design Manager on all design coordination and technical delivery aspects. You'll report directly to the Principal Design Manager and play a key part in ensuring design information is delivered efficiently and accurately to meet programme and quality objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the Senior Design Manager in coordinating design information between consultants, subcontractors, and internal teams.
  • Assist in reviewing design packages, identifying buildability and coordination issues early.
  • Help manage design documentation and ensure compliance with project specifications and regulations.
  • Attend design meetings and liaise with site, commercial, and planning teams to resolve design-related queries.
  • Contribute to design risk assessments, value engineering exercises, and quality reviews.
  • Ensure that design information aligns with programme milestones and procurement schedules.
About You
  • Degree-qualified in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
  • Previous experience as an Assistant or Junior Design Manager, or similar design coordination role (ideally with a main contractor or design consultancy).
  • Strong technical understanding and excellent coordination and communication skills.
  • Passionate about high-quality design delivery and eager to progress within a supportive, forward-thinking business.
