Halecroft Recruitment Limited is recruiting for an Assistant Cost Controller in Runcorn, Cheshire. This role sits in a growing finance team and focuses on cost control, supplier invoices and financial administration.

You will work closely with the Lead Cost Controller to ensure accurate processing and control of costs, while developing your finance career in a busy environment. The position is full-time and office-based, offering stability and potential growth.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years' experience in Accounts Payable, Cost Control, Finance Administration or a similar role.
• AAT part-qualified or currently studying would be advantageous.
• An understanding of double-entry bookkeeping and 3‑way matching.

Responsibilities

• Process a high volume of cost of sales, agency and supplier invoices accurately and efficiently.
• Carry out 3‑way matching between purchase orders, goods received notes and invoices.
• Manage the Accounts Department inbox, responding to supplier queries and ensuring issues are resolved promptly.
• Complete regular supplier statement reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
• Assist with investigating and resolving aged items on the GRNI report.
• Process monthly credit card reconciliations and staff expense claims.
• Support the Lead Cost Controller with information and validation for weekly BACS payment runs.
• Assist with the accurate filing and tracking of subcontractor documentation, including CIS and retention tracking.
• Support data cleansing and finance administration as part of ongoing systems and ERP development.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Cost Controller to join a growing finance team within an established business based in Runcorn, Cheshire.

Working closely with the Lead Cost Controller, you will play an important role within the transactional finance function, supporting the accurate processing and control of costs, invoices and supplier accounts.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone with 1–3 years' experience within Accounts Payable, Cost Control or general finance administration, who is looking to develop their finance career within a busy and evolving environment.

Key Responsibilities

About You

We are looking for someone who is organised, detail-focused and confident working within a busy finance environment.

Ideally, you will have:

• 1–3 years' experience in Accounts Payable, Cost Control, Finance Administration or a similar role.


• AAT part-qualified or currently studying would be advantageous.


• An understanding of double-entry bookkeeping and 3‑way matching.


• Good Microsoft Excel skills and confidence working with financial data.


• Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to processing information.


• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.


• The ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively to deadlines.


• A proactive approach with the confidence to investigate queries and resolve discrepancies.
