Job summary

Avanti Park Primary School in Frome is seeking an Assistant Chef to join the catering team, helping to prepare and serve fresh, nutritious meals for pupils and staff each day. You will support food preparation, meal packing and service, and assist with deliveries, stock rotation, and safe handling of food and equipment.

Working with the Chef Manager and kitchen team, you will maintain high standards of cleanliness, follow HACCP and safety procedures, and contribute to a positive mealtime

Qualifications

• Understanding of food hygiene and kitchen health and safety.
• Ability to work unsupervised in a busy environment.
• Ability to follow strict instructions in a systematic and consistent manner.
• Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people within the school.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, pack and service meals and refreshments for pupils and staff.
• Maintain cleanliness and organisation across kitchen areas, including crockery and equipment.
• Receive, handle, store and rotate food deliveries and stock in line with safety requirements.
• Collaborate with colleagues to ensure catering runs smoothly each day.
• Follow all health and safety, COSHH, HACCP and temperature-control procedures.

You will play an important part in keeping the kitchen clean, organised and fully prepared for each day’s service, while also assisting with deliveries, stock rotation, storage and the safe handling of food and equipment.You will follow established food hygiene, HACCP, COSHH and Health and Safety procedures, helping to maintain consistently high standards across all areas of the kitchen.
