Qualifications

  • A construction-based degree or equivalent knowledge through experience and training.
  • Registration as a Class 1 Building Inspector with the Building Safety Regulator.
  • Previous experience in the construction industry, understanding building techniques and processes.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with tact and diplomacy.
  • Analytical ability to interpret data accurately.
  • Proficiency in ICT, particularly MS Office.
  • A valid driving licence and access to a vehicle.

Job description
The Role

We have an exciting development opportunity for two Assistant Building Control Inspectors to join our award-winning Building Control team. This role will help support the delivery of Solihull Council’s responsibilities under the Building Safety Act and delivering high-quality Building Control services across the borough.

You’ll be an integral part of a high-performing and growing team that works closely with Planning, Solihull Community Housing, project delivery teams and our suite of external customers to ensure safe, compliant, and sustainable development.

As an Assistant Building Control Inspector, you will

  • Hone your skills on your pathway to a career in Building Control
  • Support the administration and implementation of building regulations and allied legislation.
  • Assist Officers and, as your experience grows, progress to independently carry out inspections, compliance visits, investigations, surveys, and interventions across a variety of building control settings.
  • Help support the delivery of relevant enforcement activities, and maintain accurate case records, responding within corporate timescales and keeping stakeholders informed.
  • Contribute to proactive project work, complaint investigations, and educational/training initiatives as your knowledge develops.

Key Requirements

To meet the challenge and be successful in the role you will have:

  • A construction-based degree or equivalent knowledge through experience and training.
  • Registration as a Class 1 Building Inspector with the Building Safety Regulator (BSR).
  • Previous experience in the construction industry, with an understanding of building techniques, plans, and processes.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage effectively with technical staff and customers.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including tact and diplomacy in challenging situations.
  • Analytical ability to interpret data and information accurately.
  • Proficiency in ICT, particularly MS Office and bespoke systems.
  • A valid driving licence and access to a vehicle, to enable you to move around sites in the Borough where much of the team’s work is delivered.
