Assistant Area Head - Engineering and Electrical Renewables

Location: Colchester/Braintree

Salary: £45,443 - £46,713 per annum (including up to £3,000 skills supplement)

Bonus: £5,000 on successful completion of probation

Contract: Full-time, permanent

An established Further Education provider is seeking a motivated Assistant Area Head - Engineering and Electrical Renewables to join their leadership team. This is a fantastic opportunity to take on a senior role with reduced teaching hours, leading a small team while shaping the future of Engineering, Manufacturing, and Renewable Technology programmes.

Working from a state-of-the-art Net Zero Centre, the role involves line management, curriculum development, and delivery in areas including Solar PV, Battery Storage, EV charging, and Heat Pumps.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and support staff to deliver high-quality teaching, learning, and assessment.
  • Manage curriculum planning, timetabling, and programme delivery.
  • Deliver a reduced caseload in Electrical/Renewables.
  • Drive curriculum development and employer engagement.
  • Support learner recruitment, retention, and achievement.
Requirements
  • Level 3 qualification in Electrical/Engineering (NVQ & AM2 or equivalent).
  • GCSE English & Maths at Level 2+.
  • Teaching qualification (Level 5 or willingness to complete within 3 years).
  • Assessor/Verifier Awards (or willingness to achieve within 6 months).
  • Experience leading/coordinating staff with a focus on quality improvement.
