We are looking for an organised and enthusiastic Assistant Animatic Editor to join the editorial team on a new 2D preschool animated series.

Created by Tanya Scott and Sam Morrison, The Underglow introduces preschoolers to a hidden, magical garden — a world just out of sight from humans. The Underglow inhabitants portray an understanding of the value of everything: from the world they live in, to the people they know, to the items they often find, which they use in new and imaginative ways.

Working in partnership with Finnish animation production studio Gigglebug to produce the new series, The Underglow is all about inspiring curiosity and wonder in children and was developed in partnership with the BBC as part of BBC Ignite.

A Productions is an award-winning animation studio based in central Bristol. Our success in creating engaging, original and award-winning content is made possible through the unique chemistry of the creative teams we build. This shared vision is underpinned by our focus on diversity and inclusion, staff wellbeing and ensuring an authentic voice across all our productions. Delivering a creative, inclusive work community that encourages collaboration, engagement and mutual trust at its core.

Responsibilities
  • Support the Animatic Editor in assembling and maintaining episode animatics using Toon Boom Storyboard Pro.
  • Prepare storyboard panels, dialogue, temporary sound effects and guide music for use within animatics.
  • Carry out editorial updates and revisions following creative feedback from the Series Director and Storyboard Supervisor.
  • Assist with scene timing, panel management, camera moves and project organisation within Storyboard Pro.
  • Ensure Storyboard Pro projects are well organised, accurately named and prepared for delivery to our co production partner.
  • Produce review exports for internal screenings, broadcaster approvals and production meetings.
  • Maintain accurate file management, version control and editorial documentation throughout production.
  • Liaise with Storyboarding, Production and the editorial team to ensure materials are delivered on schedule.
  • Update editorial progress and production information within FTrack.
  • Assist with quality checking storyboard packages before delivery, ensuring timings, naming conventions and project structure meet production standards.
  • Help maintain an organised editorial environment and contribute to the continual improvement of production workflows.
Skills and experience
  • Experience using Toon Boom Storyboard Pro.
  • A strong interest in visual storytelling, pacing and animation editorial.
  • Excellent organisational skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work to production deadlines.
  • Good communication skills and a collaborative approach to working within a production team.
  • A proactive attitude with a willingness to learn and take on new responsibilities.
  • Previous experience supporting animatic or storyboard editorial on an animated production.
  • Understanding of 2D animation workflows and the relationship between Storyboard Pro and Harmony.
  • Experience preparing dialogue, temporary sound effects and guide music for animatics.
  • Familiarity with production tracking software such as FTrack.
  • Previous experience working on a preschool or children’s animated series.
  • Organised, methodical and dependable.
  • Calm under pressure and able to prioritise changing workloads.
  • Positive, collaborative and approachable.
  • Keen to develop editorial and storytelling skills within animation.
  • Comfortable working as part of a creative team while taking ownership of assigned tasks.
