Job summary

Tony Alan Recruitment are seeking an Assistant Accountant to join a growing SME near Lewes. This permanent, full-time role is office-based from 8am to 5pm, with clear succession potential to the Finance Manager/Director.

You will work closely with the FD and operations teams, handling WIP, project costs, supplier payments, reconciliations and management accounts support, with opportunities to progress and study for professional qualifications.

Qualifications

• Good understanding of double-entry bookkeeping.
• Experience with project costs, contracts or WIP.
• Strong Excel skills.
• Sage experience advantageous.
• AAT/ACCA/CIMA studying or keen to progress with a professional qualification.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and account for WIP across live projects.
• Track project costs and commercial performance against contracts.
• Liaise with Commercial team, Contracts Managers to obtain and understand project information.
• Supplier invoices, reconciliations and payment runs.
• Supplier statements.
• Bank reconciliations.
• Accruals and prepayments.
• Assist with management accounts and cash flow reporting.
• Variance analysis.
• Support CIS and subcontractor payment processes.
• Use Excel/spreadsheets to analyse and report financial information.
• Assist the FD with wider finance duties.

Based just outside Lewes (car owner)

£36,000 - £44,000 per annum, plus study support, bonuses, parking etc.

Tony Alan Recruitment are looking for an Assistant Accountant to join an established SME business near Lewes. This is a genuine succession opportunity, with the successful candidate having the potential to progress and ultimately take over from the current Finance Director.

You’ll work closely with the FD, Commercial and Operations teams, gaining broad exposure across WIP, project accounting, commercial performance and management accounts.
