Job summary

A local apprenticeship program is looking for a motivated Accounts Assistant Apprentice to gain hands-on experience in finance while working towards an accounting qualification. You'll be involved in processing invoices, maintaining financial records, and supporting financial operations in a dynamic environment. Job description

We are seeking a motivated and detail‑oriented Accounts Assistant Apprentice to join our team. This entry‑level role is ideal for someone beginning their career in finance and looking to gain hands‑on experience while working towards an accounting qualification.

Wage £16,000 a year (first 12 months), raising to the national minimum wage thereafter.

Hours Monday – Friday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm. 38 hours a week.

What you'll do at work
  • Assist with processing purchase invoices and matching them to purchase orders

Administrative & Ad Hoc Duties
  • Maintain and organise digital filing systems and financial documentation
  • Handle incoming calls, emails, and general enquiries related to finance
  • Assist with data entry and updating internal systems
  • Support other departments with administrative tasks when required
  • Provide general office support such as scheduling, photocopying, scanning, and correspondence

What you'll learn
  • Assist with the investigation and response to financial information queries
  • Record and analyse financial data using the organisation's standard tools and processes
  • Apply double entry bookkeeping and accounting standards to process financial documents, generate financial statements and report financial information to users of accounts
  • Assist with the production of accurate financial information for the preparation of accounts
  • Reconcile financial data, including preparation of reconciliations and review of reconciliations
  • Investigate, resolve or escalate transactional queries and errors within their remit as appropriate
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders
  • Communicate financial information in a way that non‑finance stakeholders can interpret and understand
  • Utilise digital skills to present key financial information using finance and accounting software and applications
  • Use software packages to assist with basic accounting tasks in line with cyber and data security requirements, including safe data backup
  • Communicate using varying approaches and media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications
Training schedule
  • Training will be one day a week with flexible options of classroom training in Hertfordshire and live online learning options
  • Full support with a work coach to ensure a positive and successful apprenticeship experience
