Job summary

CMA Recruitment Group is partnering with a Poole, Dorset-based organisation to hire an interim Assistant Accountant. You will reconcile historical transactional data in Sage, analyse invoices from the past years, and assist with closing processes during a time of change.

Ideal candidates have experience in accounting/finance support, strong analytical skills, and clear communication. The role offers flexible start times and potential remote work after an initial period.

Qualifications

• Experience in an accounting/finance assistant role or similar.
• Ability to reconcile transactional data and identify discrepancies.
• Experience interpreting large datasets in finance systems.
• Comfort liaising with finance colleagues and other units.

Responsibilities

• Support finance team in reconciling historical Sage data for upcoming sales.
• Analyse customer and supplier invoices from the past 2–3 years to check accuracy.
• Assist in monthly and yearly closing processes and provide insights.
• Collaborate with finance and other business areas to gather information.

This interim Assistant Accountant role offers an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to busy finance functions and contribute to critical reconciliation and data analysis tasks during a period of change.

What will the Assistant Accountant role involve?

• Supporting the finance team in assessing and reconciling historical transactional data within Sage, ensuring accuracy and completeness for upcoming business sales
• Analysing customer and supplier invoice data from the past two to three years to identify discrepancies and validate data integrity
• Assisting in reconciling monthly and yearly closing processes, providing insights to ensure data readiness for potential sale transactions
• Collaborating closely with various finance team members and broader business functions to gather relevant information and ensure consistency
• Contributing to the overall data validation process during a period of business transition, helping facilitate a smooth sale process

Suitable Candidate for the Assistant Accountant vacancy:

• Experience operating within an accountant or finance assistant capacity, preferably with exposure to transactional data reconciliation
• Strong analytical skills with an eye for detail and accuracy
• Proficiency in Sage or similar financial systems, with the ability to interpret large datasets effectively
• Clear communication skills, capable of liaising with finance colleagues and other business units
• Adaptable team player comfortable working in a busy, fast-paced environment and capable of delivering under tight deadlines
