Qualifications

Assistant Accountant

We are seeking a reliable, analytical and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to join our busy Finance team within a leading manufacturing company.

Salary: £35000-£40,000 per annum (pro rata, depending on experience)
Location: Kettering (Office Based)
Hours: Monday to Friday, 37.75 hours per week
Closing Date: 28/11/2025

This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in supporting the company's financial operations from payroll processing to management accounts and analytical reporting within a fast-paced and supportive environment.

About the Role

As an Assistant Accountant, you'll provide essential financial and administrative support across all areas of the finance function. Working closely with colleagues across departments, you'll ensure accuracy and efficiency in all aspects of accounting and reporting.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Preparing monthly accounts to trial balance.
  • Completing month-end routines including accruals, prepayments and journals.
  • Reconciling bank and nominal accounts and assisting with cash flow forecasting.
  • Managing the fixed asset register and posting depreciation.
  • Administering suggested payment runs and analysing statistical data.
  • Supporting sales and purchase ledger functions as required.
  • Assisting with year-end accounts preparation and audit support.
  • Acting as the first point of contact for payroll queries for production staff.
  • Processing monthly payroll, including hourly pay calculations and pension contributions.
  • Maintaining compliance with GDPR and internal accounting controls.
About You

You’ll be a motivated and organised finance professional with strong analytical skills and excellent attention to detail. You’ll thrive in a fast-paced environment and enjoy improving processes to drive efficiency and accuracy.

To succeed in this role, you’ll have:
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a finance or accounting environment.
  • Proven experience producing accounts to trial balance and managing payroll.
  • Strong understanding of double-entry bookkeeping and accounting standards.
  • Proficiency in Sage (Sage 200 or Sage 50) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • AAT Level 3 qualification (or equivalent); part-qualified ACCA/CIMA desirable.
