Job description

We’re looking for an Asset Modelling Lead to join our Strategic Asset Management & Insight team and play a key role in shaping Affinity Water’s long-term investment strategy. In this role, you’ll help develop and maintain our asset investment modelling capability, ensuring asset data, deterioration models and cost assumptions are translated into robust, auditable investment plans for PR29 and beyond.

Working closely with Asset Health, Cost Intelligence, Investment Optimisation, IT, software vendors and wider stakeholders, you’ll provide modelling, analysis and insight to support investment planning, regulatory submissions and business decision-making.

This is a great opportunity to influence investment decisions over the next 5–25 years, helping us identify where funding should be prioritised to deliver the best outcomes and value for our customers.

What you’ll be doing
  • Steer on the development and enhancement of the asset investment modelling system, ensuring it is fully fit-for-purpose as the organisation’s capital maintenance modelling tool for PR29.

  • Maintain system configuration, specifications and documentation in line with governance requirements.

  • Integrate and validate asset, cost and performance data to support accurate asset deterioration modelling and investment planning.

  • Support deterioration modelling, scenario analysis, forecasting, sensitivities and optimisation.

  • Analyse model outputs and translate complex data into clear, decision-ready insights.

  • Develop the interface between Pioneer and Copperleaf, ensuring outputs align with our value and service frameworks.

  • Work with IT and software vendors to maintain and improve the modelling system and support the Asset Risk Management (ARM) module.

  • Support governance, assurance and regulatory submissions, ensuring modelling is transparent and auditable.

  • Support the ongoing development of our Risk & Value process and value-based investment decision-making.

About you

You’ll have:

  • A degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science or a related discipline.

  • Experience with statistical modelling tools such as Python or R.

  • Experience using modelling or decision-support tools such as Pioneer, Copperleaf or similar.

  • An understanding of deterioration modelling and asset health and how these inform investment planning.

  • Experience working with asset, cost and performance data and integrating multiple data sources.

  • Experience developing, improving or implementing technical systems or tools.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex datasets and model outputs.

  • Strong knowledge of SQL, Excel, PowerPoint and SharePoint.

  • An understanding of risk and value frameworks or decision analysis.

  • Knowledge of asset information, data structures and systems such as GIS, EAM or asset registers.

Desirable experience
  • Experience within a regulated industry, particularly utilities.

  • Awareness of regulatory frameworks and business planning processes.

  • Strong stakeholder engagement, influencing and communication skills.

  • A proactive and solution-focused approach to complex challenges.

Advert Closes - Friday 18th September
Benefits:
  • Salary from £54,000 dependant on skills and experience
  • Learning and development opportunities, including mentoring and a range of formal courses and open learning resources.
  • Entry into the company annual bonus scheme.
  • Annual leave from 26-30 rising with length of service, and the option to purchase up to 5 extra days.
  • A ‘Celebration Day’ in addition to public holidays that people can use to celebrate a religious festival or other occasion that is important to them.
  • A generous 'double match pension scheme' that doubles the contributions you make (company contribution capped at 12%)
  • We offer a range of family benefits including enhanced Maternity, Adoption, Paternity, Shared Parental Leave, Fertility Support Leave and up to 5 full or 10 half days of paid Carers Leave.
