Job summary

The role leads on high-profile property initiatives such as the District Heat Network and regeneration projects, delivering strategic asset management across a diverse estate while supporting residents and city growth.

Qualifications

The working arrangement for each role is set by the manager, based on service requirements.

Job Introduction

We’re recruiting an Asset Manager (Strategic Projects) to join our Corporate and Housing Team within Property and Development.

The Corporate and Housing Team within Property and Development manages one of the most important asset portfolios in Milton Keynes, with responsibility for the land and buildings that underpin public services, support residents, and shape the future growth of our city.

The team oversees a diverse estate that includes civic offices, libraries, leisure facilities, schools, depots, community buildings, hostels, temporary accommodation, and provides valuation and general property advice to colleagues in Home Ownership and Housing Regeneration.

Alongside day-to-day management, the team plays a strategic role in enabling Milton Keynes’ continued growth and the provision of essential services.

As our Asset Manager (Strategic Projects), you’ll lead on high-profile property initiatives that support major council priorities, including the District Heat Network, environmental programmes, and key regeneration projects.

Your work will help ensure council assets are managed effectively, investment is delivered responsibly, and strategic property decisions create lasting benefits for local people.

Working across Milton Keynes City Council, you’ll provide expert advice, lead complex projects, and help us deliver our priorities in a way that reflects our values of being dedicated, respectful, and collaborative.

Site-Based role

This is a Site-Based role, and you’ll be expected to work from the designated workplace.

  • Deliver high-quality asset management and professional property advice across a diverse operational estate.
  • Resolve complex property matters by applying sound judgement, negotiation skills, and a focus on achieving the best outcomes for Milton Keynes City Council.
  • Guide property programmes and project delivery to ensure compliance with legislation, professional standards, and council procedures.
  • Take responsibility for translating strategic decisions into effective operational plans and clear actions for colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Work collaboratively to manage significant property projects, professional commissions, and revenue budgets linked to major strategic programmes.
Ideal Candidate
  • A degree-level qualification or equivalent experience, together with an appropriate professional qualification or membership of a professional body such as the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, is essential.
  • You bring extensive experience in property or asset management and a strong understanding of the legal and regulatory framework that supports effective property services.
  • Your ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail will help you succeed in a fast-moving environment.
  • Experience in leading complex property projects and programmes will enable you to deliver high-quality outcomes across a varied portfolio.
  • A strong understanding of strategic planning and long-term asset management will help you identify opportunities that support the city’s future growth.
  • Confidence when influencing, negotiating, and building positive relationships with colleagues, partners, and stakeholders is key to this role.
