Job summary

London Academy for Applied Technology (LAAT) is seeking an Assessment Support Officer to coordinate assessment planning and examinations across campuses. You will support the Assessment Lead and academic staff, ensuring compliant, secure processes and timely responses to student queries.

You will also provide welfare support, coordinate records, and assist with programme operations to enhance the student experience and maintain high-quality governance.

Qualifications

  • Experience in an assessment-based, student support, academic services, or advisory role in a higher education setting.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and empathy skills when working with diverse student populations.
  • Organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and handle sensitive information.
  • Strong IT skills including MS Office and learning new student records systems.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate preparation, distribution, and secure storage of all assessment and examination materials.
  • Work with staff to ensure assessments are submitted, reviewed, and approved in a timely manner.
  • Maintain assessment and submission calendars and communicate key dates to staff and students.
  • Organise and oversee logistics for in-person and online exams, including venues and invigilators.

JobPurpose

The Assessment Support Officer plays a vital rolein the management and coordination of academic assessments across all thecampuses at LAAT. This position mainly supports the Assessment Lead and theacademic team inclusive of the Module Leads in delivering robust and compliantassessment processes. The role is essential in ensuring that assessmentpractices are consistent, secure, and aligned with institutional and awardingbody standards, while also supporting students through timely, accurate, andfair assessment services.

Extended duties undertaken by this roleincludes playing a vital part in enhancing the student experience by providinghigh-quality welfare support, academic coordination, and frontline assistanceto students across our programmes.

Working across assessments, student support,and academic operations, you will be the first point of contact for studentqueries, concerns, and needs—supporting students to thrive both personally andacademically.

KeyResponsibilities
AssessmentPlanning and Coordination
  • Coordinatethe preparation, distribution, and secure storage of all assessment andexamination materials.
  • Workwith academic staff to ensure that all assessments (e.g., coursework briefs,examination papers, marking schemes) are submitted, reviewed, and approved in atimely manner.
  • Assistto maintain assessment and submission calendars for all programmes and levelsof study, communicating key dates to staff and students.
ExaminationAdministration
  • Organiseand oversee the logistical setup of all in-person and online exams, ensuringvenues, invigilators, and materials are arranged in compliance with regulatoryrequirements.
  • Actas a primary point of contact for invigilators, providing training,documentation, and guidance where required.
  • Ensurethe secure handling and return of completed exam scripts, and oversee theirtracking, storage, and access in line with institutional policy.
  • Provideadministrative support during exam periods, including the production of examtimetables, seating plans, and attendance registers.
AssessmentRecord Management
  • Ensuretimely collection and recording of marks into the student records system.
  • Workclosely with academic staff to validate and cross-check marks and feedbackbefore release to students.
  • Tracklate submissions, extensions, and mitigating circumstances, ensuringdocumentation is accurate and processed promptly.
  • Preparereports on student performance data and outcomes to support academic qualityreviews and board reporting.
QualityAssurance and Regulatory Compliance
  • Ensureassessment processes meet internal and external academic standards (OfS).
  • Supportinternal audits and external reviews by providing documentation, reports, andprocedural evidence.
  • Monitorcompliance with academic regulations, assessment policies, and deadlines acrossall departments.
  • Contributeto continuous improvement initiatives in assessment processes, includingdigitisation and process mapping.
Academicand Assessment Support
  • Supportstudents with assessment-related queries, including extensions, mitigatingcircumstances, deferrals, and appeals.
  • Liaisewith the Assessments Lead to coordinate submission processes, review requests,and track outcomes.
  • Helpcommunicate assessment policies to students and ensure students understandacademic expectations.
Programmeand Module Coordination
  • AssistModule Leads in academic progression tracking and the Program Lead, indelivering key academic operations such as induction, registration, etc.
  • Provideadministrative and operational support to Module Leaders, including help withattendance monitoring, assessment timetables, and student communication.
  • Supportthe organisation of programme-specific events, such as student briefings andfeedback sessions.
StudentWelfare & Support
  • Serveas the first point of contact for students seeking non-academic advice orwellbeing support.
  • Offerfriendly, confidential guidance on a range of issues including attendance,personal difficulties, finance, accommodation, and mental health.
  • Referstudents to internal or external support services as appropriate, ensuringtimely follow-up.
  • Proactivelymonitor student engagement, escalating concerns in line with safeguarding andretention protocols.
Data,Records, and Reporting
  • Maintainaccurate, up-to-date student records using institutional systems StudentInformation Systems.
  • Identifyat-risk students using engagement or performance data and produce reports forrelevant stakeholders.
  • Supportthe institution's quality assurance processes by helping to capture studentfeedback and improve service delivery.
