You will be responsible for the accurate assessment and administration of Council Tax and Housing Benefits, ensuring residents receive the correct support while maximising collection. Qualifications

Assessment Officer – Revenues & Council Tax

£29.20 per hour (Umbrella) | Fully Remote | Initial 3-Month Contract – Ongoing

We are seeking an experienced Assessment Officer to join a high-performing Revenues & Benefits service on a fully remote basis. This role focuses on the accurate assessment and administration of Council Tax, Housing Benefit, and related enquiries, ensuring residents receive the correct support while maximising collection for the authority.

Key Responsibilities
  • Accurate and timely processing of Housing Benefit & Council Tax Reduction claims
  • Council Tax billing, collection & recovery
  • Education benefits and associated services
  • Identify potential fraud risks and liaise with Corporate Anti-Fraud teams
  • Maintain strong working knowledge of all related IT systems
  • Stay updated on relevant legislation and government regulation related to Council Tax
  • Provide advice and resolution to residents, third parties and internal stakeholders
Requirements
  • Knowledge and practical experience using Academy and Enterprise systems
  • Strong understanding and interpretation of Council Tax legislation
  • Experience handling complex Council enquiries
  • Customer-focused background in a frontline service environment
  • Proven experience updating Council Tax records including Discounts & exemptions assessment, Setting payment arrangements / Direct Debits
  • Ability to work accurately under pressure while meeting deadlines
