Job summary

Atkore in West Bromwich is seeking an Assembly Operative to perform hand assembly and bagging, with standard times and routine machine operation.

You will ensure first-off approval, conduct visual inspection for quality, and maintain the visual management system for your orders, while working safely in a team and individually. The role includes 25 days annual leave and a range of company benefits.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to use both English language and mathematics.
• Experience in a manufacturing or picking environment.
• Attention to detail and accurate data entry.
• Able to use manual/ automated machines.
• Able to work as part of a team and as an individual.

Responsibilities

• Complete assembly of component parts to standard times.
• Ensure ‘first off’ is authorised and inspect components.
• Quality checking of components during jobs.
• Operate and maintain assembly equipment.
• Follow 5S and housekeeping practices.
• Assemble Flexicon Special Orders (FSOs) per plan.
• Adhere to SOPs and risk assessments.
• Wear PPE and keep work area clean.
• Other duties as directed by line manager.

Description

What you’ll do:

• Complete assembly of component parts - hand assembly and bagging operations working to standard times for each job
• Ensure ‘first off’ is authorised prior to completion of the job and complete visual inspection on components meeting quality standards
• Continuous quality checking of components whilst completing jobs
• Machine operation and maintenance of equipment used within the Assembly Department e.g. bagging machine (including setting of the machine), band saw, manual press etc.
• Maintain the visual management system for own jobs whilst working
• Assemble Flexicon Special Orders (FSOs), this includes measuring and cutting conduit, completing the required documentation and following the FSO assembly plan
• Ensure components are assembled within agreed timescales
• Follow all appropriate standard operating procedures
• Ensure housekeeping is maintained to a high standard within own work area and the Department generally
• Take part in 5S activities (Sort, Set in order, Shine/Clean, Standardise and Sustain)
• Comply with all health and safety requirements and risk assessments
• Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) for the task in-hand
• Ensure work area is kept clean and tidy at all times
• Any other duties of a similar nature as directed by your line manager.
