Working alongside experienced professionals, you'll receive structured training and develop the practical and technical skills needed to work towards recognised industry qualifications.

Please note: Due to the nature of the role, you must be 18+, hold a full UK driving licence and have access to your own car.

  • Working hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch
  • Car allowance

Key Responsibilities

We are pleased to offer an opportunity for 2 Apprentices to join the team, gaining hands‑on experience in asbestos surveying, sampling, air monitoring and laboratory analysis.

Day to day:

  • Accompany experienced surveyors on site visits and learn how asbestos surveys are carried out across domestic, commercial and industrial properties
  • Learn how to identify materials that may contain asbestos and safely collect samples for testing
  • Assist with asbestos surveys, recording information about rooms, samples, photographs and building plans
  • Develop laboratory skills, including preparing samples and using specialist microscopes to identify asbestos fibres
  • Learn how air sampling equipment is used, including setting up pumps, checking airflow and handling samples
  • Gain supervised experience in air monitoring, fibre counting and Four‑Stage Clearance activities
  • Accurately record survey findings, sample information and analytical results using specialist software
  • Carry out equipment checks, report faults and follow safe working procedures
  • Follow health and safety requirements, including the correct use of protective equipment and contamination‑control procedures

About You

You're someone who prefers being out on site rather than behind a desk, and you enjoy practical, hands‑on work. Early starts, travel and changing locations don't put you off. You're adaptable, enjoy variety and can adjust to different environments and situations.

You take safety seriously and understand the importance of following procedures properly. You're reliable, focused and have excellent attention to detail, particularly when carrying out checks, recording information or following technical processes. You understand the importance of getting things right, working carefully and never cutting corners, especially in environments where safety is a priority.

You're practical by nature and learn best by doing. You're comfortable using equipment, following instructions and working in protective clothing when required. You're also coachable, open to feedback and willing to learn from experienced colleagues. You know when to stop, ask questions and seek guidance, and you're keen to build your confidence and technical skills over time.

Please note: Due to the nature of the role, you must be 18+, hold a full UK driving licence and have access to your own car.

Apprenticeship Eligibility

To apply for this apprenticeship, you must:

  • Be 18 or over
  • Not be in full-time education
  • Have lived in the UK for at least 3 years
  • Have the right to work in the UK

Apprenticeships are designed to provide new knowledge, skills and behaviours, so applicants should not already hold a Level 3, degree or higher qualification in a closely related subject, or have significant experience in the same field.

If you're unsure whether you meet the criteria, we'd still love to hear from you - get in touch and we can advise you further.

So how does the apprenticeship work?

Start your career as an asbestos site technician and gain hands‑on experience supporting essential surveying, air monitoring, and inspection work in real‑world environments.

As part of this Level 3 Asbestos Site Technician apprenticeship, you'll learn how to carry out asbestos surveys, air monitoring, and clearance activities, applying recognised industry methods to produce accurate, compliant, and legally defensible results.

Over 12 months, you'll combine day‑to‑day experience in your role with structured training delivered by expert tutors at Tiro. Our blended learning approach includes a mix of online sessions, in‑person training, and hands‑on support, alongside guidance from a dedicated mentor in the workplace.

You'll spend at least 6 hours per week on off‑the‑job training, including virtual learning, practical activities, and applied assignments.

What your training will look like: You'll follow a structured programme combining live sessions, online learning, and hands‑on workplace training to build your skills step by step.

As part of your training, you'll also work towards the RSPH Level 3 Award in Asbestos Air Monitoring and Clearance Procedures, a recognised qualification within the asbestos industry.

What could your future look like?

This apprenticeship will help you build the skills and experience needed to start your career as an asbestos site technician and progress within the asbestos management industry.

Through hands‑on training, you'll develop the competence and confidence to carry out asbestos surveys, air monitoring, and clearance testing in line with regulatory requirements. You'll work in safety‑critical environments, following strict compliance standards and contributing to protecting people, property, and the wider environment. This programme can also lead to professional recognition, such as becoming a Registered Science Technician (RSciTech).

You'll gain experience that’s highly valued in a regulated and essential industry, opening up opportunities to grow and specialise within asbestos surveying, air monitoring, and related technical roles.

We're Tiro (pronounced Tea-ro - white, two sugars).

In Latin, it means novice, recruit, apprentice, beginner, and soldier - the perfect name for a company that’s been helping fearless apprentices join ambitious businesses since 2005.

We believe great apprenticeships help everyone. There are remarkable apprentices out there just waiting to be found, and fantastic employers waiting to nurture them.

We're proud to help connect the two - supporting industries that make, test, and innovate; from polymer manufacturing and materials science to sustainable engineering and advanced technology.

At Tiro, we make great things happen for people.

And that starts with you.
