Job description
Overview

I am looking for a kind and reliable Personal Assistant to support my mother with daily routines, outings, and enjoyable activities. You will offer companionship through activities she enjoys, provide reassurance during moments of anxiety, and accompany her to the Open Door in Morningside and on other local outings or appointments as required.

About my mother

My mum is 94 and lives at home with my dad. She is physically quite able but has vascular dementia (not advanced). She enjoys chatting, doing crosswords, playing the piano, and watching football. She loves her family deeply, including her six grandchildren and great-granddaughter, and takes joy in knowing everyone is happy and healthy.

Proposed Hours, Duties and Responsibilities

Support is required for approximately 8 hours per week, with potential for this to increase following review. Days and times are flexible and can be discussed to suit both parties.

  • Tuesday and Wednesday: 8.30am – 10.45am
  • Provide friendly companionship and reassurance at home, helping to create a calm and positive start to the day.
  • Engage in light activities such as conversation, coffee, or a crossword to ease morning anxiety.
  • Accompany mum to the Open Door in Morningside for 10.30am. While the group bus usually collects her, it is preferable if the PA has a driving licence. Use of the family car is available.
  • Ensure the safe use of the family car for drop-off and return, if driving is undertaken.
  • Thursday or Friday: 10.00am – 2.00pm
  • Provide companionship and support at home and out with the house.
  • Participate in meaningful activities such as piano, games, or jigsaws.
  • Accompany to appointments, lunch, afternoon tea, or visits as required.
  • Undertake light household tasks and assisting with meal preparation.
  • Maintain open communication with the family to ensure consistent support and awareness of any changes.
About You

You are compassionate, proactive, and understand the importance of supporting independence. Experience working with older people or those with dementia is desirable. A driver’s licence is preferred, and use of the family car for outings (including to the Open Door) can be arranged.

If this sounds like you and you are interested in this opportunity, I would love to hear from you.
