Art Graduate Teaching Assistant – Secondary (Creative SEND Support)

Location: South Shields
Contract: Full-time, term time only

About the role

Are you an Art graduate looking to make a difference in education? Join a nurturing secondary SEND provision in South Shields, supporting pupils with SEMH and additional learning needs. This role blends creativity and care — using art and expression to inspire confidence and emotional wellbeing.

Key responsibilities
  • Support art-based learning and creative projects across the school.
  • Help pupils express themselves through art, craft, and design.
  • Assist in managing classroom behaviour and building positive relationships.
  • Encourage pupils’ engagement and independence through creative learning.
  • Work closely with teachers and support staff to deliver inspiring, inclusive lessons.
About you
  • Degree in Art, Design, or a related subject.
  • A passion for supporting children and young people with additional needs.
  • Calm, patient, and adaptable approach with excellent communication skills.
  • No formal experience required — just enthusiasm, creativity, and empathy.
