Area Planning Officer

Full-time (37 Hours)

Grade C2 - £44,909 - £49,081 per annum (inclusive of 17.5% Market Supplement)

North Kesteven District Council is seeking an experienced planning professional to join the Development Management team. This post puts you at the heart of a high profile department which is implementing an ambitious growth and place-shaping agenda but set around the core principles of delivering the Council’s carbon reduction ambitions to 2030.

Job Requirements
  • Relevant planning qualification to degree, diploma, masters or equivalent
  • Demonstrable extensive post qualification experience from working on complex planning matters within a Local Authority or for the private sector across all aspects of Development Management
  • Well-developed written and verbal communications skills, with a proven record of political and professional sensitivity and awareness.
Key Responsibilities
  • To manage a caseload of mainly complex and major development proposals and pre-application enquiries
  • Prepare and provide written evidence and act as expert witness on the Council's behalf at public inquiries and hearings
  • Prioritise and manage workload to meet legislative timescales and deadlines
  • To mentor and support Planning Officers
Key Attributes
  • Evidence of the capability to work alone or with minimal supervision to resolve complex and significant professional issues
  • Well-developed written and verbal communications skills
  • To be able to order and weight material planning considerations appropriately, and to articulate and justify decisions made
  • A highly organised and conscientious person

You will be required to apply a high level of attention to detail when carrying out this role, to support the delivery of the Development Management service at a professional level and show an appreciation of the contribution local government can make to the welfare of the people living, working, and visiting the district.
