Job summary

Heart of England Co-operative Society seeks an Area Manager for its Food Division. You will own the performance of stores in your area, directing sales, profitability and customer experience with hands-on leadership of Store Managers.

You will use trading discipline, local insights and data to improve results, drive efficiency and embed new initiatives. A true multi-site retail leader, you’ll shape our Food strategy and deliver exceptional service day‑to‑day.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in multi-site retail operations.
• Proven track record of delivering sales, profit and KPIs.
• Experience leading, coaching and developing Store Managers.
• Ability to drive consistent store standards, execution and accountability.
• Strong financial understanding, including budgets and cost control.
• Confidence to identify underperformance and act decisively.
• Proactive approach to operational routines, compliance and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of sales, profit and operational performance across your area, delivering against budgets and targets.
• Embed a strong trading mentality, managing sales, availability, waste and margin opportunities.
• Monitor performance against budget, identify risks and take corrective action.
• Drive ranging, pricing, promotions and merchandising to maximise returns.
• Use data and local knowledge to identify opportunities and improve results.
• Lead store visits, coaching and follow-up to ensure standards and execution.
