Hampshire Archives has an exciting opportunity for an Archives Assistant to join our Team based in Winchester.

The Role

To provide a high-quality customer service for users of archives whilst ensuring high standards of care and stewardship.

What you’ll do

As part of our busy team, you will advise customers by phone, email, and in person to help them find the information they seek. You will work flexibly across several task areas including: helping to run the public search room; retrieving documents from our strongrooms; conducting research; and helping visitors at reception.

What we’re looking for

The successful person will have a good general education and be able to illustrate in their application the following skills criteria:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ideally with customer service experience
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to work consistently under pressure
  • Ability to work well as a team member by supporting colleagues and developing good working relationships
  • A methodical approach to work and good attention to detail
  • Proficiency with IT systems
  • A level of fitness that will enable you to fulfil the physical aspects of the role

Working hours at Hampshire Record Office in Winchester will be Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. You will also be required for occasional Saturday working (usually 1 per year).
