A leading housebuilding company in Gateshead is seeking an Architectural Technician to contribute to high-quality residential developments. Responsibilities include producing technical drawings, ensuring regulatory compliance, and providing technical support to project teams. The ideal candidate will have a relevant qualification in Architectural Technology and strong proficiency in CAD software, particularly AutoCAD. This role offers a chance to be part of an experienced technical team.

Qualifications

  • Relevant qualification in Architectural Technology, Construction, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as an Architectural Technician, ideally within the residential sector.
  • High level of proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD) is essential.
  • Knowledge of UK Building Regulations and NHBC standards is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and produce detailed working drawings using CAD.
  • Develop and detail house types and plot designs.
  • Ensure compliance with current Building Regulations.
  • Coordinate with external consultants for drawing integrations.
  • Attend site meetings to monitor progress and compliance.

Overview

Our client is a leading Housebuilder, tried and tested in delivering high-quality residential developments across the North East. They are currently looking for a skilled Architectural Technician to join the Technical team and contribute to their ongoing success.

Responsibilities
  • Production of Technical Drawings: Prepare and produce detailed working drawings, plans, elevations, sections, and construction packages using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit).
  • Design Development & Detailing: Develop and detail standard and bespoke house types and plot designs, ensuring practicality, buildability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all designs and drawings comply with current Building Regulations, NHBC standards, and other relevant legislation.
  • Approvals Management: Prepare and submit drawings, plans, and necessary documentation for Building Regulations and other statutory approvals.
  • Information Management: Organise, maintain, and manage technical data, drawings, and specifications throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Technical Support: Provide timely and accurate technical advice and support to site teams, sub-contractors, and other internal departments to resolve construction queries and issues.
  • External Liaison: Coordinate and manage the integration of information from external consultants (e.g., structural engineers, landscape architects, utility providers) into the working drawing packages.
  • Site Visits: Attend site meetings as required to monitor progress, conduct inspections, and ensure compliance with design specifications.
  • Continuous Improvement: Contribute to the review and improvement of standard house type designs, specifications, and technical procedures.
Skills and Experience
  • Relevant qualification in Architectural Technology, Construction, or a related field (e.g., HNC, HND, or Degree).
  • Proven experience as an Architectural Technician, ideally within the residential or house building sector.
  • High level of proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD) is essential; experience with BIM software (e.g., Revit) is highly desirable.
  • In-depth knowledge of UK Building Regulations and NHBC standards would always be preferential.
  • A strong understanding of construction methods and materials used in the house building industry.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
